If you learn how to tie only one knot in your life, learn the uni-knot. A correctly tied uni- knot will save a lot of heartache and maybe a very big fish. It is very easy to tie.
A great knot for joining lines of dissimilar thickness is the Albright. It's ideal for topshoting. One word of warning, this is a knot that must be tied correctly to hold.
If you're the type that seems to have a hard time even tying your shoelaces correctly, then the Palomar is the knot for you.
